KG needed to get out of Minnehaha, as he wasn't going to get the supporting cast he needed to win anything, especially in the already tough to win Western Conference.
Moving to Boston may not be the perfect scenario, but, he's got two very good player, upper level players, in Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, to help him get to the Eastern Conference Finals, which is a distinct possibility, and the NBA Finals, which is an outside chance, depending on who ends up stepping up to fill out the 5 on the floor.

Indy TV stations confirmed with Reggie Miller that he has spoken about coming out of retirement with the Celtics. In my mind the greatest Pacer ever to don the uniform, I of course would rather see him back in the blue and gold. HOWEVER, a player of Reggie's class does not belong among the circus that has become the Pacers in the past couple of years, and, he stands a chance to win the ring that he richly deserves.

This reminds me of the Vikings/Cowboys trade where the Vikings got Walker and the Cowboys got a championship team. I liked KG but he was way overpaid and the Lakers proved one man is not a TEAM made.

Pdiddy2, what fans that are left are a bit ambivalent about trading KG. Obviously he has been the face of the T-Wolves since he was drafted. A much needed Superstar to replace the likes of failures like JR Rider and Christian Laettner.
He also never got them past the Conference Finals and the Wolves have always been pretty capped out due to his huge contract. Yes, he's one of the top 10 most talented players and THE hardest working in the league and a joy to watch every night. But he also, doesn't always step up and make the BIG shot at crunch time.
McHale had to do something and this was apparently the best deal out there now. Getting Jefferson, a couple draft picks and a bunch of unproven youngsters is going to take time to pay off. I'll be a lot less likely to watch the Wolves this season, without Garnett.
Hopefully they can clear some cap space and sign a couple big time free agents next year and work on rebuilding for a run in 2009-10.

Suns didn't get Garnett, traded away James Jones, and Kurt Thomas. They added Grant Hill. Not a good off season.

Hey Zim, what are the local fans saying about this latest stroke of genius by McHale? What he has done would be nearly the equivalent of San Antonio trading Tim Duncan! I would imagine McHale would not be safe in public these days?
If I'm a local T-Wolve fan, I show 'em how I feel w/my $$$ and try to get as many people to stay away fm anything to do with the team! McHale's the one who should've gone not KG!

A Big three of KG, Pierce and Allen will take them pretty far in the east.

True, but the only thing to consider is that Boston is in the East. So they may be a contender in the East, but the Champions will come out of the West.

Last year, the Celtics had the second worst record in the NBA, then got hosed in the draft lottery and are to pick fifth. This didn't exactly give the fans hope for next year.
So I don't blame them for making this trade. It will at least give the fans something to go see.
I think they'll make the playoffs since the Eastern Conference is weaker. But it is a stretch to call them contenders to go to the Finals.

Even with KG going to Boston, they are not contenders yet. Danny still has some work to do to get the Celtics back to any where close to contending.

Sorry about your loss Zim & other Twolves fans :( McHale was a good player but he sucks as a basketball exec. I'm guessing Box seats and season tickets will be had for a steal with no KG.

The Wolves are also getting three benchwarmers and possibly a ball bag in the deal. Not sure about the ball game. I think McHale is holding out for one of Red's old cigar butts too, but Ainge is loathe to part with that.
Can't say I like the deal at all, since KG has BEEN the Wolves since he was drafted. They don't have anybody else and will be a sure fire top three lottery pick without him.
From ESPN:
It's believed that the tentative agreement also calls for the Celtics to ship youngsters Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair and Ryan Gomes to Minnesota, along with a future first-round draft pick and the return of a first-rounder that the Wolves surrendered in the Wally Szczerbiak-Ricky Davis trade in January 2006.

There is at least one and possibly 2 first round picks coming to the Twolves. It depends on the position of the Boston pick.

I don't know much about the 2 Celtics that Minn would get but if theres' no draft picks & $$$ involved it sounds like the Twolves are taken a MAJOR screwin on this one!

KG may be his own worst enemy. If he continues to believe that Minn. will build a winning franchise around him after all the years of empty promises then he's fooling himself. The downside of the Tiago draft is that he won't arrive for at least another year as he is tied up in a contract with a team in the Spanish league. I think the Spurs might be ok til he gets there tho ;)

I agree with Yam. I think KG would make them a better team in the short run. At least until Nash's window runs out. Nash is the key. Amare is a great player, yet they don't win without Nash. SA is still SA, still the team to beat. I like that Tiago Splitter draft for SA.

I guess all the rumours of KG going elsewhere are dead now... I really though that the Suns deal was goin' to happen! That would've really shook up the NBA world! A Nash-KG-MArion trio is phenomenal, but I think they still would fall short of the Spurs! KG is not any way familiar with the Sun's system!

In the San Jose paper this morning, they are suggesting that the Warriors pick of Bradon Knight is part of the package to bring Kevin Garnett to the Warriors. That is a new twist I had not heard before.

You got that right JP! Phoenix takes a BIG GAMBLE if they take KG and lose Amare but... on the other hand Amare + the Suns haven't been able to get past the Spurs in several tries. Can KG + the Suns do it? Maybe they take the chance before Nash gets too much older.

Hear the Suns never talked to Atlanta, Minnesota trying to get a 4th team involved to free up money for Atlanta and Phoenix. Part Atlanta owner Steve Belkin has the ability to veto a trade that puts them over the salary cap.
