Shady car dealers targeting military buyers...........

Cody Cameron, a Marine stationed in Jacksonville, N.C., got burned when he bought a used car. He paid $17,000 last year for a 2004 Nissan 350-Z with 60,000 miles on it. He figured the car would last him a long time.

It didn’t.

“I drove the vehicle for about two weeks. And one day all of the wheel studs on the left rear tire just popped off and the tire took off down the road,” he recalls.

He was able to get the dealership to pay for the repairs. But about a week later, the studs broke again. This time they refused to pay.

The auto experts at Edmunds.com advise military customers to watch out for deceptive sales practices.
Military personnel have a steady income. The government is paying them every single month for their service. Unscrupulous car dealers know that and are really anxious to get into that income stream.....

Edmunds.com warns military families to be on the lookout for crafty salespeople who use patriotism as part of their sales pitch.

Rosemary Shahan, president of Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety, has a long list of “unconscionable practices” she says unethical dealers use on military buyers which included: falsifying loan applications, bait-and-switch financing and selling a car they know has been in a wreck without telling the customer.

There are many businesses that "lurk" around military bases. The younger troops are bug targets. Most of them have money in their pockets and do not know how to budget it. I have been in for 22yrs and you see alot of this.

Thanks WEPSMAN for sharing your experience with us......if you are not in the military, most of us wouldn't know this............

Interesting that the same studs broke less than a month after the first repair. I'd be in the face of the service manager where the repairs were done, wanting answers ........

Interesting!!!!! To say the least........

There are Shady Used Car Dealers everywhere. But used car dealers don't know how long a vehicle will last any more than you do.

Some have no shame, and to that I will agree, but, there is also the caveat of "buyer beware". He didn't have the car checked out by a mechanice that he trusts and got burned.

Here's the thing, now, he gets to tell everyone about his experience with that dealer, and no one will go to them anymore.

There's the payback.

No surprise here. Go near any military base and they are surrounded by payday lenders, check cashing places, Rent-a-Centers, and veterans are bombarded by piggish for profit colleges looking to feed at the G.I. Bill money trough.

This is a shameful, totally wrong practice. And it's actually pretty widespread.
